What is a Swing Bed?
After a hospital stay, many patients still need additional medical care before safely returning home.
Blue Ridge Medical Center's Swing Bed Program allows eligible patients to remain in the hospital while receiving skilled nursing care and rehabilitation instead of transferring to another facility. The goal is to help patients regain strength, independence, and confidence before returning home. This reflects the purpose described in your existing materials.

Admission
Your physician determines you qualify for Swing Bed services.
Recovery
Receive daily nursing care and rehabilitation from our experienced team.
Progress
Your care plan is reviewed regularly as you regain strength and independence.
Return Home
Once your rehabilitation goals are met, we'll coordinate a safe discharge home with any needed home health services.

How long will I stay?
Most patients stay approximately 14–21 days, depending on their recovery goals.
Does Medicare cover Swing Bed?
Medicare Part A generally covers the first 20 days in full for eligible patients. Daily coinsurance may apply for days 21–100.
Can my family visit?
Yes. Recovering close to home makes it easier for loved ones to stay involved in your care.
Will I go home after Swing Bed?
That's our goal. Your care team works with you to safely transition home once your rehabilitation goals are met.
